Q: WHAT'S A WIKI?
A:

Here's about the best description I have read: What Is Wiki

Q: HOW DO I ADD TEXT, LINKS, PAGES, ETC.
A:

Click this link; Read the rules, which you'll find HERE http://doc.tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php?page_ref_id=260

Q: HOW MANY FEATURES DOES THIS WIKI HAVE?
A:

Lots! Everything needed to support a large on-line community of transportation designers, engineers, students and activists. Click the following link to review the main list of features for Content Creation and Management Tools http://doc.tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php?page=Content+Creation+and+Management+Tools

Q: GREAT, THIS WIKI HAS PUBLIC ACCESS. THEN I CAN LIST MY UPCOMING GARAGE SALE, RIGHT?
A:

NO. Only transportation issues are allowed to live on this site. No commercial notices or off-topic discussion is permitted. If you're selling railroad cars and air busses then go ahead and list them. Otherwise, find another WIKI.

Q: DO I HAVE TO REGISTER IN ORDER TO WRITE MY COMMENTS ON THIS WEB SITE?
A:

YES. This web site does not at present allow Anonymous Users to write comments. However, we are working to increase the number of Registered Users with full posting privileges.

Q: WILL THE OPINIONS I EXPRESS BE EDITED IN ANY WAY?
A:

NO. You are free to express your opinion and it will appear exactly as you wrote it. But any commercial notices or off topic comments are subject to quick deletion. Also bear in mind that this WIKI has a language filter that will disallow foul language. You can rant and rave all you want, just without swearing.

Q: I SEE YOU HAVE AN IMAGE GALLERY. CAN I UPLOAD MY VACATION PHOTOS SO MY RELATIVES IN EUROPE CAN SEE THEM.
A:

NO. Images require considerable server resources and are restricted to the graphics Registered Users need for reports, articles and web page illustrations. All Registered Users will be allowed the use of certain image galleries like icons, avatars and clips. The privileges needed to upload graphics to this web site will be discussed in another place. There is more information about using images here http://doc.tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php?page=Image+Galleries+User

Q: CAN I HAVE MY OWN WEB PAGE ON THIS SITE?
A:

YES. But it must be relative to transportation issues. That is, you can have content on your private web page that has nothing to do with transportation issues, but that content must remain private. Bear in mind, this WIKI is groupware, and as such, it can accommodate groups within groups. Administrative rights can be granted to create a private group - or several groups, each with their own private Home Page only their private group can view. They can maintain a wide variety of content, but only the transportation relevant portion of their content should be viewable by Anonymous Users, and Registered Users not in their group. For instance, a group of city planners working on many issues and generating articles about their ideas can choose to keep their banter and drafts private, and make public only their finished works about transportation issues.

Q: HOW LARGE CAN A GROUP BE? HOW MANY SUBGROUPS CAN BE CREATED?
A:

The software - Tiki - is capable of supporting groups and subgroups unlimited in size. However, there is a practical limit to server resources. The software is based on the PHP Open Source scripting language, which is very demanding on server resources. A guesstimate is that about 10,000 Registered Users could be supported with our current configuration. Server clustering may be needed beyond that number.

Q: WILL THIS WEBSITE USE EXOTIC FEATURES LIKE THE SHOUTBOX, CHAT ROOMS, AND MULTIMEDIA?
A:

YES and NO. Multimedia is very taxing on the server. It will be used, but rationed. Chat rooms are extremely powerful tools, and will be supported; but used only when the chat is closely monitored by select Registered Users with the appropriate permission assignments. The Shoutbox is best deployed within small workgroups and will be fully supported within its technological limitations. TikiWiki is bleeding edge technology emerging from the daily contributions of some 200 developers evolving it ever towards greater expediency and complexity. At this website, we will use every, and any admixture of resources and features that may help bring about better Public Transportation, and thus, in our view, a more civil society.
